I was shocked that I could actually get really close to the Traynor with the little Katana when aiming for a mild Marshall crunch. I A/Bed it against my Traynor YBA1 MOD1 (a wonderful 40 watt-tube-Bassman/Plexi circuit) with its 2x12 cab loaded with neo creambacks. As I said in my original post I actually really like the Katana 50mkii combo I have. I've actually come across your setup before, and it looks really well planned out. IMO they are way better for hard rock and metal. i should have just got a peavey bandit or studio pro. i am using a nux mg 300 going into the return and it sound killer, or amptweaker big rock pro II to get killer high gain lead tones, but the whole point of buying the amp is worth nothing because it just sounds crappy overall. In the end, to me, the only thing it is good for is a pedal platform through the clean channel. and you can't put pedals in the order you want them to be in because it only gives you a few pre made choices of how you want the pedal order to be. tone studio sucks because there's no great tones on it. so the whole reason i bought it was ruined by it's terrible tones.ġ0. after i bought it i found out how much i hated it and didn't even want to spend more money on the foot switch. my little yamaha thr10x, that i bought to replace the katana mk II 100, sounds WAY better.ĩ. can't turn off cab sim - no option to turn it off.Ĩ. none of them sound like a real pedal and they all add CUUUUUUH palm mute sound to the high gain setting making it unusable for high gain lead.ħ. it only works to dl crap profile setting that are no good in the first place.Ĥ. the usb connection doesn't work right to record with so you have to use a interface anyway. the delay is good and the octaver is good. they aren't awesome like amazing boss pedals are. if you try and add a dirt pedal in front of the amp, while it is set to low gain setting, it males a terrible sound and you are forced to switch to a the 100% clean channel to use pedals.Ģ. I have a katana mk II 100 and think neither katana are worth the money.ġ. Some of these things matter more to me than others, but I feel like I really don’t fully understand the ramifications of the different software. GAFC changed for added control of individual effects MKI advantages: Newer version of Tone Studio - that does not show signs that it will be obsolete any time soon The way I see it is like this: MKII advantages: I know that there are third party developers of the software but I’m not sure if I should rely on that long term, and based on a quick glance at the vguitars forum they seem to be kind of buggy. tsl from this forum, for instance, onto a Katana mki, the tsl would have to have been created in Tone Studio for Katana mki, right? My understanding is that Tone Studio for mkii is backwards compatible, but not the other way around. I realize it is essentially obsolete at this point, but can the adobe air version of Tone Studio (mki) be easily downloaded and operated on both Mac and PC? Is there a 32 bit vs 64 bit (OS) part of the equation here that I should be aware of in the present or future? I have read a ton and know the major differences between them quite well, but I have questions about the software underpinning the mki. I would be getting it used, and it’s not surprising that the 100 head mki could be bought for less than the mkii. I own a Katana 50 MKii, and like it enough that I am now seriously considering getting the head in order to pair it with my 2x12 cab which I love.
